Even the best of them catch a few, unintended Zs sometimes.

For the first time in his 39 years on morning television, Al Roker accidentally overslept, missing his Wake Up With Al show on The Weather Channel.

"After 39 years, it happened. I overslept and missed a show. Missed #WUWA. But will be on time for @today," the 58-year-old weatherman tweeted at 5:41 a.m. this morning.

That must've been some dream!

Acknowledging the goof, Roker couldn't resist poking fun at himself by posting a Vine video of him yawning as he arrived on the Today set.

"Morning, Sleepyhead. Overslept and missed #wuwa Here on time for TODAY," he added.

Today's Twitter feed also had a good laugh at his expense, observing, "@alroker joking this morning that he's going to change #WUWA to, 'Al Wake Up!!!' #oversleeping."

Co-anchors Savannah Guthrie and Matt Lauer got in on the ribbing as well with the former calling it "Almageddon" and the latter offering up Rip van Roker as the caption for this twitpic.

Twitter

Noting his longer than scheduled snooze had blown up on Twitter, Roker seized the moment, tweeting an invitation for his followers to tell him their oversleeping story.

Later when asked by Guthrie, Lauer and cohost Natalie Morales about what happened, Al admitted his alarm just failed to do the job.

"Well, just you know…my phone didn't go off and somebody said, 'What's your backup?' and I said, 'For 39 years I didn't need one," he replied.

Lauer subsequently confessed that the nickname Rip van Roker he tweeted out had some of his own followers writing him back wondering if he meant "RIP," as in rest in peace!

"They thought it was RIP Al Roker…but that's not what it said. If you read it carefully, that's not what it said," said Matt to guffaws.

Chimed in Savannah: "It's just a deep sleep!"

No doubt, Al will be setting two alarms when he hits the pillow tonight.
