File this one under the only good thing to come out of Happy Endings' cancellation.

Damon Wayans Jr. is set to reprise his role as Coach when New Girl returns for its third season, E! News has confirmed. Wayans originally appeared in the Fox hit's pilot, but was forced to leave the show when Happy Endings (may it rest in peace) was picked up for a second season by ABC. Lamorne Morris was introduced as Winston in episode two to replace Wayans.

But what does Coach's return mean for Winston and how long will Wayans be sticking around? Fortunately for you, we've got some inside scoop on Wayans' highly anticipated return to the loft!

Get excited, New Girl fans, 'cause Coach is sticking around for quite some time; though Fox wouldn't confirm any casting information, sources tells us that Wayans will be returning for six episodes with an option to stick around.

As for how Coach will be brought back in to Nick (Jake Johnson), Jess (Zooey Deschanel), Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Winston's lives, we're being told that he will "be heavily integrated into Winston's storyline." Here's hoping for an epic showdown between the two for a room in the loft in 3...2...1...

TVLine first reported the news of Wayans' return.

New Girl returns for its third season on Tuesday, Sept. 17 on Fox.
