Are you booking another appointment with Ray Donovan?
That's what we want to know after the new Showtime series, which stars Liev Schreiber and Jon Voight, finally premiered tonight. Schreiber stars as the titular character, a fixer a la Scandal's Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington), except Los Angeles is his workplace and Hollywood's top players, not politicians, are his clients. And like Pope, he has some daddy issues of his own after his father Mickey (Voight) is released from prison.
So what did you think of Ray Donovan? And will you tune in again? Plus, we chatted with Schreiber (with wife Naomi Watts!) and Voight on the red carpet at the show's premiere party about their new drama...
Schreiber, who is mostly known for his work in films such as X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Defiance and The Sum of All Fears, reveals to E! News that one person is responsible for his decision to commit to a TV series. "I think it was [creator] Ann Biderman really. That's what made me want to do it," adding that his character's quiet demeanor was also a plus. "And I don't have to say much either. I enjoy that a lot!"
But that doesn't mean he's "broody" at home, as Watts says, "When there's kids, there's no time for brooding!"
As for Ray's relationship with his father on the series, it's...complicated, to say the least. "The heart of the series in some ways is this dynamic: This difficulty between this father and son," Voight, who describes his onscreen son as "sexy," explains. "It's dangerous...there's a lot going on. There's a lot of undercurrents, a lot of storyline stuff that takes the full season to dig into."
