CBS is taking the high road.
After a devastating tornado left at least 51 people dead in the Oklahoma City area today, the most-watched broadcast network yanked tonight's scheduled season finale of Mike & Molly due to its now-too-close-to-home subject matter.
The episode features Melissa McCarthy and Billy Gardell's titular couple bonding as a tornado approaches Chicago.
"Due to the tragic events this afternoon in Oklahoma, we are pre-empting tonight's season finale of Mike & Molly, which has a related storyline," CBS said in a statement. "A repeat broadcast of Mike & Molly will run in the time period. The season finale will be broadcast at an appropriate date."
Also tonight in recognition of the tragedy, Dancing WIth the Stars host Tom Bergeron asked for a moment of silence for the victims during the show's performance finale. And many celebs took to Twitter to express their thoughts and encourage folks to make donations to the Red Cross.
Toby Keith, who's from the Oklahoma City suburb where a mile-wide tornado tore through homes, schools and businesses this afternoon, said in a statement: "This storm has devastated the community that I grew up in. I rode my bike through those neighborhoods. I have family and friends in Moore. My heart and prayers go to those that have lost so much. But Moore is strong and we will persevere. God be with you all."
