Kris Allen is on the road to recovery.
The 27-year-old American Idol season eight winner hit Twitter Thursday night to let fans know he would be undergoing surgery soon, after suffering injuries in a car accident New Year's Day.
"Getting ready for surgery tomorrow morning," Allen tweeted. "Gonna get this hand back to 100% no matter what it takes."
Allen, who broke his wrist Tuesday in the head-on collision, was riding in the car with his wife, Katy, and their French bulldog, Zorro, when the accident occurred.
Following the crash, Allen not only reassured fans that he was OK, but also slipped in a big announcement: He and Katy are expecting their first child together!
"Thank you @ford for equipping me with a car that kept my whole family @katyallen @ZorroPup and the little one we have on the way safe," Allen tweeted yesterday. "Yes I got in a really bad wreck tonight and yes I'm having a lil baby. #gonnabeadaddy."
In spite of the accident, Allen doesn't plan to let his injuries slow him down, saying that his upcoming Out Alive tour will still go on as scheduled.
