Here's something you don't see every day: Lea Michele gyrating. On top of a table. In a tiny little skirt. And a bustier. Oh yeah, and climbing her new potential love interest—and some wooden tables—like a tree.
Such was the scorching-hot scene yesterday as I hit the set of Fox's Glee, where it became evident that the four-year-old Fox series—and Lea's character Rachel—are growing up. And it is working.
Lea's sexiest performance yet is part of Glee's second episode, the second Britney Spears tribute called "Britney 2.0." The scene includes Rachel's new suitor and NYADA junior, Dean Geyer (Brody), and dance teacher, Kate Hudson (Cassandra)—both solid additions to the show.
"We're on at 9 p.m. now [Thursdays] so they are giving us some more sexiness," Lea told me of Glee's season four, which takes place partly in New York, where Rachel attends NYADA. "It does feel like the show has grown up a bit, and Rachel has grown up a bit…She's getting made over."
Some fans of the Finn and Rachel pairing might be less than thrilled to hear that her super-steamy number involves some surprisingly provocative (he just put his hand where?!) moves with Brody. But Lea says it's not as flirty as it seems.
"We haven't really been doing too much together," Lea says when asked about Brody and Rachel's chemistry. "Rachel asks him to help her with this number and that's kind of it for now."
And what about Finn? "Rachel, in the first few episodes, is really always thinking about Finn. She is all about Finn. That's where her head is at. And this guy Brody just kind of keeps sort of popping up a little bit. He's interested, so we'll see where it goes."
Fun little side note: While trading tweets yesterday with Cory about their welcome-back gifts to each other (a lava lamp and a coffeemaker), Lea told me with a laugh, "I called Cory and said, ‘You really should come to set and see me work!' He said he was hanging out by the pool, and I said, 'Trust me. It will be worth your while!'" Guess who managed to pop by the set to see Lea's big number? Smart man!
Stand by for much more scoop from the Glee set as the fourth season—premiering Sept. 13—gets closer.
In the meantime, check out these photos from the set. Yes, that is Brody's backside in the first one, and Kate and Lea in the background.
