So how is Her Royal Highness preparing for the London-based events? By playing with fire!
Her Majesty was on hand today as the famous Olympic flame visited Windsor Castle.
For those not in the know, the torch (initially lit in Olympia, Greece, home of the ancient games) will travel by way of 8,000 torchbearers an epic trip of 8,000 miles through 1,000 U.K. cities before finally arriving at the Olympic stadium in London just in the nick of time for the July 27 opening of the games.
Olympic organizers claim the torch will come within ten miles of 95 percent of the U.K. population!
And today that meant two lucky torchbearers (of the 111 that will run today) were in the presence of the queen. Gina Macgregor, 74, who has been playing netball for 65 years, arrived at Windsor "soaking wet" (in the queen's words) but was in very high spirits as she and the queen swapped smiles.
Phil Wells, 12, an avid rugby player, was on hand to accept the torch and the queen—as well as her husband Prince Philip—watched on as the flame passed and the young athlete took off on the next leg off the journey.
