Time to meet the grandparents!
Jenna Bush Hager may have given birth to her second baby girl with husband Henry Hager on Thursday morning. But the former First Daughter and current NBC News correspondent couldn't delay in having her proud parents meet baby Poppy.
"@laurawbush and I were overjoyed to meet our second grandchild yesterday. Poppy Louise Hager entered the world on August 13 in New York City, but we consider her an honorary Texan," former President George W. Bush wrote on Instagram Saturday afternoon while holding his new granddaughter. "Jenna and Henry chose her name as a tribute to her great-grandfather, 41, who was nicknamed Poppy as a child."
He added, "We are grateful to God—and to @jennabhager and Henry—for this beautiful, healthy gift of life."
Laura Bush also had the special opportunity to meet her newest family member. While posing with her daughters, husband and grandchildren, the former First Lady couldn't help but share her gratitude.
"The darling Poppy Louise Hager was born August 13th in New York City," she wrote on social media. "Our family is thrilled with our newest blessing."
On Friday's Today show, co-anchor Savannah Guthrie revealed to viewers that the former president "got very emotional" when first hearing about Poppy's name and the meaning behind it. Growing up in Connecticut, Jenna said George H.W. Bush "was known as smart and loyal...so she has big shoes to fill."
While Jenna gets used to having two young kids in her home, the former elementary school teacher is savoring all of her family time. And if you're eager to see this family expand even more, the odds may be in your favor.
"I appreciate life so much more as a mom. And I feel so lucky. I know how wonderful motherhood is and that makes it so much sweeter," she shared on Today. "I want a big family. We'll see what happens."
