Everyone knows Hugh Jackman can belt out the tunes, having showed off some serious song and dance skills hosting the Oscars and won a Tony Award for The Boy From Oz on Broadway.

But less clear is whether fellow Aussie actor Russell Crowe has the pipes to pull off Les Miz—until now.

The 48-year-old Oscar winner unleashes his singing voice in a new clip of Les Misérables that has surfaced on the web, prompting fans to ask: does he have what it takes to make a credible Inspector Javert?

By the sound of it, we'd say Crowe, who for years led a rock band called 30 Odd Foot of Grunts, acquits himself nicely with a strong baritone performance in the big screen version of the hit stage musical. The song in question is "Work Song," which finds the actor's policeman character releasing Jackman's Jean Valjean from captivity.

Les Misérables hits theaters on Christmas Day.
