Will Kate Winslet Take a Flying Leap?

Diane English wants the Titanic actress to star in her movie adaptation of Erica Jong's novel Fear of Flying

Diane English is hoping that Kate Winslet will be in the mood for a zipless f--k.

English, the writer and director of the new film The Women, tells me her next project is likely to be an adaptation of Fear of Flying, Erica Jong's 1973 best-selling novel about a married poet who starts fulfilling some of her sexual fantasies.

The tome caused a stir upon its publication, due to its explicit depictions of the sexual life of the main character, Isadora Zelda White Stollerman Wing. One of the book's lasting legacies is the term zipless f--k, which refers to a one-time anonymous sexual encounter.

"I would love to see Kate Winslet in that role," says English, who not only wrote the screenplay but will direct the flick. "She's got the script, so we'll see."

In the meantime, English will finally see her long-in-the-works The Women (she first started developing it over a decade ago) hit theaters on Friday.

Annette Bening, Meg Ryan, Jada Pinkett Smith and Debra Messing star in English's updated take on the 1939 original. This time around, Ryan's character leans on her best gal-pals after finding out that her husband is cheating on her.

The flick also includes plenty of cracks and references about cosmetic surgery, but English wasn't worried about causing any offense.

"Just because somebody decided to have a little nip or a tuck, and it's done in a tasteful way, and it makes them feel good, what's the difference between that and straightening your teeth or having your hair color done?" English says. "We're not judging it."
