Plenty of country music luminaries have made the rounds on ABC's Nashville—it does film in the Music City, after all, so it's not too difficult to drop by set for a cameo every now and then. But the latest music legend to guest star on the drama is a little more unexpected.

Elton John is set to appear as himself in the penultimate episode of the show's fourth season, E! News has confirmed. The May 18 episode will see the singer "perform alongside up-and-coming singer and songwriter Gunnar (Sam Palladio)," according to The Hollywood Reporter, which originally reported the news.

John joins Kesha and country stars Kelsea Ballerini and Thomas Rhett, who are also guest-starring as themselves (in different episodes) in the second half of Nashville's fourth season.

E! News reported in March that Dancing With the Stars pro Derek Hough, who is taking the season off from DWTS to star in Broadway's revival of Singin' In the Rain, will reprise his Nashville role in multiple episodes this spring. He'll be back as Juliette's (Hayden Panettiere) leading man in the Patsy Cline biopic the two filmed last season.

Wednesday's episode of Nashville, "What I Cannot Change," will see Juliette return to Nashville after her rehab stay for postpartum depression, Luke making a decision about his next record, and the introduction of Alicia Witt as country superstar Autumn Chase, whom Layla will court in an attempt to score a slot opening for her on tour.

Nashville airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on ABC.
