House of Cards, Season 3

David Giesbrecht for Netflix

It's a good day to be the President of the United States...and no, we're not talking Barack Obama. We mean the evil, scheming, murderous Frank Underwood!

Netflix has just renewed the award-winning political drama House of Cards, E! News has confirmed.

The series, starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright will return for season four sometime in 2016.

The online streaming site announced the good news on its official Twitter page for the drama. "I will leave a legacy. ," the tweet read.

Netflix released season three of the popular political drama over a month ago, after a bit of a snafu when all of the episodes accidentally leaked early ahead of the scheduled Feb. 27 premiere date. The streaming service promptly took it down and released an official statement on the accidental early release.

"Due to a technical glitch some Frank Underwood fans got a sneak peak," the statement said. "He'll be back on Netflix on Feb 27."

Season three followed a clash with the Russians that flipped Claire (Wright) against her husband Frank (Spacey) after they had just renewed their vows. She pulled out of his campaigning and told him that she was leaving him.

Production on the new season is set to begin later this summer in Baltimore, and while no exact date in 2016 is given, it would make sense for season four to kick off during real-life elections.
