Wall Street Money Never Sleeps, Michael Douglas, Shia LaBeouf

Today, the movie world descends on the French Riviera for the start of one of the world's biggest film fests, Cannes.

Plenty of star power will be on hand—Naomi Watts, Sean Penn, Javier Bardem—and some very high-powered flicks, too.

So here's what you gotta know:

Competition this year was fierce and only 16 films (down from last year's 20) were admitted into the official competition for the coveted grand prize, the Palm d'Or. But that probably won't make jury president Tim Burton's job any easier.

Despite the narrow field, there will be plenty of big names. Several films are making their premieres at Cannes, ahead of what are expected to be blockbuster releases.

Festival attendants will get the first look at director Ridley Scott's Robin Hood, starring Russell Crowe; the highly anticipated Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, with Michael Douglas and Shia LaBeouf; and Fair Game, the story of Valerie Plame's exposure as a CIA agent, starring Penn and Watts.
