If Benjamin Button traveled back in time just 15 years, would he wind up in Italy?

An Italian woman filed a lawsuit on Friday claiming the 13-time Oscar-nominated film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is based on a short story she wrote in 1994 called "Il ritorno di Arthur all'innocenza" ("Arthur's Return to Innocence").

Adriana Pichini's story was copyrighted in Italy and sent to U.S. publishers, but was never published. Per the Hollywood Reporter, a judge in Rome will review the film and her story to decide if there are enough similarities to launch an investigation. Her lawyer was uncertain of whether Pichini would seek financial damages.

The film, starring Brad Pitt and directed by David Fincher, is nominated for an Academy Award for Adapted Screenplay, but The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is said to be inspired F. Scott Fitzgerald's short story of the same name, written in 1921.
