Justin Baldoni isn't necessarily Team Rafael.

He might play Jane Villanueva's (Gina Rodriguez) baby daddy (and former boyfriend) on Jane the Virgin, but he's not rooting against Jane's on-again fiancé, Michael (Brett Dier). He's mostly just Team Jane.

"I'm all about what's best for the baby and what's best for the woman," he confesses to E! News ahead of the show's season two finale.

"I think the great thing about telenovela is that you never know what's going to happen, and you have strong arguments for Jane being with both characters. You have the guy that knew her and he's been with her, and he's been loyal, and he's been all those things, and then you have this new, interesting mystery guy. The fates kind of aligned, we had a child together. All of these things come into question and the romance and the chemistry, but is that what's best for her? Is the other guy what's best for her? What's best for Michael, now there's a child in the mix?"

Of course, that doesn't mean he doesn't love playing Rafael. In fact, one of his favorite scenes he's ever had on the show is coming up in tonight's finale—the scene teased in the promo for the episode where it looks like Raf is going to confess to Jane that he still has feelings for her.

"That scene that they tease in the finale is one of my favorite moments that I've had playing Rafael the whole two seasons," he tells us. "I think it's a really interesting character moment for him, and I'm really excited for people to see it. I'm very proud of the way that was written and what's happening and why he does what he does. Aside from that, you'll have to wait and see what happens!"

Even though you'll get some answers in the finale, in true Jane the Virgin fashion they'll also be a heck of a cliffhanger. "Our season finale this year is bigger than last year. I don't know how they did it, but they did it! Last year's season finale was incredible; this year's is even better. People are going to throw their remotes and be screaming and confused and shocked and their mouths are going to be open, and it all happens in the last 10 minutes. I don't even know how they do it. It's so cool to be part of!"

Rafael is a new father three times over on the show, and in real life Baldoni and his wife, Emily, welcomed their first child last summer. While waiting for the little girl to arrive, Baldoni realized that he'd wanted to make a time lapse video of his wife's growing baby bump but because of work and everything else going on in their lives, he wasn't able to.

So he recruited two friends, fellow new dad Travis Clark of band We the Kings and fellow TV dad Travis Van Winkle of The Last Ship, to create an app called BellyBump that will help growing families track their bumps by sending daily reminders to take belly photos using a special grid to align the pics, and after a few weeks or months it'll create a cool time lapse video of the pregnancy.

"You don't want to miss a moment, so we came up with it as a way to help moms everywhere capture and share their story in a really unique and fun way," he says.

Yes, the Mrs. did have a lot of input in the process—but the Baldoni family is not quite ready to start using it on Baby No. 2. They do want to add to their family, but not just yet.

"We talk about it," Baldoni says. "We're going to probably wait for another year—or as long as she can keep me away from her."

Jane the Virgin's second season finale airs tonight at 9 p.m. on the CW.
