Bravo's first ladies of the Big Apple are finally back!

If you thought last night's season premiere of The Real Housewives of New York City was maybe a little light on the drama we've come to know and love from the ladies, you'd better buckle up because Bethenny Frankel herself is promising that season eight will not disappoint. (As if there was ever any doubt!)

"It's the best season we've ever had," she told E! News at the Hollywood Reporter 35 Most Powerful People in Media event in NYC on Wednesday. "It's real, it's intense, it's dramatic, but not gratuitous dramatics. It's not just screaming in someone's face for the sake of doing it. Things come up that are so real that you can't believe that they actually happened. Bombs are dropped—god forbid—that you can't even believe happened. It's wild."

Bravo

So, how have Bethenny and her pals Ramona Singer, Luann de Lesseps, Carole Radziwill, Sonja Morgan, Dorinda Medley, and newbie Jules Wainstein managed to up the ante yet again this far into the series' run? The Skinnygirl founder chalks it up to a newfound authenticity. "I think it calmed down and got a little more real last year. It wasn't something trashy to be embarrassed by," she admitted. "But real issues that some of us are going through as women are coming to the surface, and it's wild. Wild."

In last night's premiere episode, a few of what look to be the season's major stories snapped into view. Dorinda's relationship with her polarizing BF John just may dominate the season, as it's clear the women have some issues with the guy, while Ramona comments about bestie Sonja foreshadowed some major fractures in this friendship as time goes on. (Ramona even told us it was "almost like a breakup"!) And that's not even mentioning Bethenny's mystery health scare down the road. Like we said, buckle up.

The Real Housewives of New York City airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on Bravo.

(E! and Bravo are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
