Gosh darn you, The 100

We hadn't yet recovered from Lexa's death or Clarke's heartbreak or Titus's suicide (note: this recap originally said Titus was stabbed, but that was incorrect, and we apologize) when we were forced to say yet another goodbye to one of our favorite characters. Lincoln (Ricky Whittle) just sacrificed himself for the sky people after helping Kane escape. Once Pike realized that his soon-to-be-executed prisoners had escaped (thanks to the brilliant and badass Octavia), he called for them to turn themselves in or watch the rest of the prisoners die in their place.

Lincoln sent Kane on and turned himself in, so he was executed with a shot to the head while Octavia watched, helpless.

Before that even happened, there was the matter of the flame to deal with.

In order to prevent Ontari of the Ice Nation from ascending to be the new leader of the grounders (and from then subsequently killing all of Clarke's people), Titus redeemed himself only the slightest bit by handing over the flame—that piece of AI technology that was in Lexa's neck and is responsible for determining the leader of the grounders—to her and sending her off to find a potentially better replacement in Luna, the nightblooded leader of a clan across the sea.

If you have a really good memory, you might recall that back in season one, Lincoln advised Clarke to take her fellow delinquents to Luna, who would welcome them. They never made it there, but now Clarke is headed there on a mission to save pretty much everyone she knows.

Whittle, who, like Alycia Debnam-Carey before him, is signed on to play a lead in another show, showed his support for the show and its fans on Twitter before the episode aired.

While we will absolutely be watching Whittle in Starz' new series, American Gods, Lincoln will obviously be missed tremendously. We can only imagine where the show goes from here.

The 100 airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on the CW.
