So no one should have been surprised when, as Heidi Montag entered the mansion she will share for the next few weeks with several pairs of celeb mothers and daughters in search of therapy to mend their broken relationships, she immediately got into a screaming match with one of her frenemies, Natalie Nunn.
Of course, the couple of cocktails Heidi enjoyed before stepping foot into the house didn't hurt. (The cocktails, which she didn't stop drinking, by the way, also made her get into a fight with the show's therapist and later barf all over the floor. All on the first night! Oh Heidi, we'd expect nothing less.)
The Hills star and her mother, Darlene Egelhoff, joined Natalie and her mother, Karen, and others on Lifetime's inaugural installment of The Mother/Daughter Experiment: Celebrity Edition. Each pair (including Kim Richards and daughter Kimberly Jackson, Courtney Stodden and mom Krista, Jessica Canseco and daughter Josie, Shar Jackson and daughter Cassie) is seeking help with a problem specific to their relationship.
The issues presented in the first episode range from the truly heinous (Courtney's mom allegedly fell in love with her daughter's husband) to the tame by comparison (Cassie feels that her mom doesn't like her boyfriend).
To note: Kim Richards has had some well-documented struggles recently and has always brought some excellent drama with her on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills—but here on Mother/Daughter Experiment, she and Kimberly were the normal ones by comparison, just utterly shocked at the craziness going on around them. Welcome to the rest of basic cable reality, Kim! It's insane.
The best part of the premiere came when Dr. Debbie revealed to the women that she was going to play the interviews they'd all done the previous day where they outlined each problem they had with each other. Juicy and kind of diabolical—but also inevitable. Doesn't anyone realize that the people they're talking about will hear them eventually, whether in an incredibly uncomfortable room the next day or on TV a few months later?
Therapy with the six duos was also kind of painful, but more cathartic to watch in a way because at least the women were trying to work out their problems. Let's just say that lots of tears were shed, and we expect many more to fall before this series is over.
