For a film that almost didn't get made, the Back to the Future trilogy has withstood the test of time—literally.

Oct. 21, 2015 marks the day that lead character Marty McFly travels to in the second installment of the series. The cast of the wildly popular films, including Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson reunited on NBC's Today Wednesday to reminisce about the history-shaping movie they starred in over 25 years ago.

"I just felt we had chemistry from the instant we walked on the set. We were so happy to see each other," Lloyd said of working alongside Fox. "It never had to be manufactured…it just was there. It was innate. It was wonderful."

Despite their magic on-screen, the movie's plot was an initial turn-off for many distribution companies because of a certain risky scripted relationship between mother and son.

"I always had a strange sense of humor," Thompson said of her character's attraction to her son when he time travels to the past and is the same age as her. She admitted it was a task to "make it innocent, you know, yet horny." Difficult task indeed!

"I had to sing 'Mr. Sandman' to get into character," she said of her role prep.

Regardless of Hollywood's premature skepticism, the movies went on to gain critical acclaim and fandom—even accurately predicting the future use of personal drones and video phone calls (even if we still haven't fully mastered the art of the hoverboard). Luckily for fans everywhere, in celebration of the  first film's 30th anniversary, all three parts are being released on Blu-Ray and DVD—you can finally trade in your scratched up VHS tapes!

The actors told Matt Lauer there are still lines people scream at them on the street, particularly "Marty McFly, you Irish bug!"

"Here we are 30 years later," Lloyd said. "It doesn't seem to have lost momentum."

Tune-in to the Esquire Network to celebrate Marty McFly's trip to the future with a binge-worthy marathon of the "Back to the Future" trilogy today starting at 12 PM ET/PT.
