The former BFFs got together for a hilarious selfie on Thursday—the first picture of them together since 2014. But before we get into that, let's take a look back at their rocky friendship...
The singers grew up together—first on Barney and then as stars of the Disney Channel. For a while they pleased fans with their never-ending BFF videos on Youtube and even collaborated on some music together. However, in recent years their friendship seemed to dwindle, leaving everyone to question whether or not they'd ever be close again.
They went through a falling out in 2010 and didn't reunite again until Jan. 2014.
"I've known her since we were 7, and we did fall apart for a while," Gomez said of Lovato (who sought treatment for an eating disorder and self-harm issues) at the time. "She was going through things and I was so young and it was confusing. I processed it saying, 'OK, I don't understand what she's going through so I'm just going to do this.' I don't think it was fair, and I'm so happy that I have her back in my life now."
Shortly after those comments, the former Disney stars reunited and were photographed grabbing dinner together at Craig's restaurant in West Hollywood.
Then, SelGo and Lovato got together again a month later at the unite4:good gala and Variety's unite4:humanity event in Feb. 2014. The two were seated next to each other as they were honored for their philanthropy work. Gomez even got choked up while talking about Lovato in her acceptance speech.
"I'm thankful for you. You inspire me everyday," the former Wizards of Waverly Place starlet said of her longtime friend. "I hope together we can inspire people to focus on what's really important."
The gala was the last time the two were photographed together as things seemed to go downhill for them yet again.
In the summer of 2014, Lovato decided to unfollow SelGo on her social media platforms. When asked about the reasoning behind her decision, the singer said, "I think it's just one of those things where people change and people grow apart."
Now, a year later, it seems they're growing back together. Lovato began following her old pal again in August. The gesture was followed by Gomez reaching out and Tweeting the "Skyscraper" singer a happy birthday on Aug. 20.
"@selenagomez I'm so glad you were born too..." Lovato responded, ":P #forever #nomatterwhat."
Then, much to their fans' enjoyment, the duo reunited for the silly selfie today—their first pic since the unite4:good gala!
"Look at how #coolforthesummer we are," Lovato captioned the pic. "Friends for years, #sameoldlove."
If this isn't the sign of a reunion, we don't know what is!
