Tim McGraw's rock hard body is the result of a lot of hard work.

The Tomorrowland actor went shirtless during a park workout in San Diego, Calif., Wednesday. With his eight-pack abs on full display, the 47-year-old did a series of planks, handstands and other toning moves.

McGraw wasn't always in such great shape, though.

In 2008, he traded whiskey for weights. "Working out is a great way to go out on stage," the country singer told People in a January 2013 cover story. "When I hit the stage, my adrenaline is going and I'm ready."

Is Faith Hill involved in his fitness? "I have tried working out a couple of times with her and afterward, I can't move," said McGraw, who sometimes joins his wife at their home gym to burn calories. When asked about her routine, the singer joked, "It's like, leg warmers and Olivia Newton-John's 'Physical.' Faith says it is nothing like that. But yeah, it's me with my headband on and leg warmers..."

Flash forward to August 2014, when McGraw detailed his workouts in a Men's Health cover story. "I'll be the first to admit I take it to extremes. I'm not one of those people who can sorta half-ass something."

In the beginning, McGraw didn't realize he was out of shape. "I was looking at some old concert shots the other day. Man, my gut! I was up there in a see-through shirt. I thought I was lookin' good!" he said.

The "Something Like That" singer also opened up about his sobriety again, telling Men's Health, "When your wife tells you it's gone too far, that's a big wake-up call. That, and realizing you're gonna lose everything you have. Not monetarily, not career-wise, but family-wise. It got to the point where my kids were getting older, and it was way past the point that they noticed it. And I noticed that they noticed."

Just days ago, McGraw said he's still into Crossfit, running and weight lifting.

"You gotta trick your body," he told The New York Daily News.

McGraw admitted he enjoys a juicy burger "every now and then," but these days, comfort food is mostly off-limits. "It's almost anti-country singers, but one of my favorite things is a kale salad with all kinds of things in it: walnuts, pumpkin seeds, Parmesan cheese, olive oil, lemon," the singer told the newspaper.
