"We call them fam. They're family, but having somebody wait in your hotel is kind of weird," Gray told E! News.

"Have you had that happen?!" Smollett asked him.

"Yup," Gray responded.

"Shut up, when did that happen?" Smollett asked.

Empire has its first season sign off tonight, March 18, and you can expect "face getting punched" and "hair pulled out." Just when you think you've seen it all, "everything has been flipped on its head," Smollett promised. The Fox series has already been renewed for a second season, so relax.

The two actors play sons to Terrence Howard's Lucious Lyon and Taraji P. Henson's Cookie Lyon. The Oscar nominated actors are parental figures both on and off screen.

"From the first time, when we auditioned, I got to vibe out with Terrence and Taraji and got to know the genuine, lovable human beings they are," Gray said. "We spent Thanksgiving together and Christmas. We try to keep it close knit, you know?"

"They're very, very unselfish, genuine people," Smollett said.

Empire's season one finale airs Wednesday, March 18 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
