Talk about a slap in the face!

After Uma Thurman attended a screening of The Slap in New York City three days ago, the Internet was buzzing about her fresh-faced appearance. "I look weird," the 44-year-old actress acknowledged on NBC's Today Thursday. "I guess nobody liked my makeup. I mean, I've been doing this for years and years and years, and people say things nice and they say things mean, and it's just like—whatever!"

"It's kind of a crazy part of the job, I guess," Savannah Guthrie said.

An unfazed Thurman replied, "You know, you take the good with the bad."

Will she try the look again?

"We saw how well the dark lipstick worked the other night!" Thurman joked.

Thurman looked like her usual radiant self in Studio 1A. Regarding her look at the screening, a source told E! News, "It was just a fun and different makeup choice. Nothing else, just a slow news week." Indeed, her makeup artist, Troy Surratt, described the makeover in an interview with Refinery 29. "We did a much stronger brow and a bold lip for a French sort of feel. I applied a creamy foundation for all-over glow, and then contoured the hairline and her cheekbones, adding warmth," he said. "I applied the lip—my color in Mégalomane mixed with Peccadille and then we just kept the eyes really, really light."

"The way I shaded her eyebrows with the pencil, I created an uplifting effect," continued Surratt, who has also worked with Adele, Zooey Deschanel, Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez and Charlize Theron, among other stars. "Then, I finished with a shimmering, silky-beige shadow on her lids, and went with no mascara at all. Sort of a reaction against all the fake lashes we've been seeing on the red carpet."

Most importantly, Surratt said, "Uma felt beautiful."

The Slap premieres tonight at 8 p.m. on NBC.

(E! and NBC are both members of the NBCUniversal family.)
