Cancel Easter, everyone. Trust us, after hearing the bombshell we're about to drop, you won't feel like celebrating anything ever for the rest of time.
Kraft Foods, who bought British candy-maker Cadbury in 2010, has apparently changed the recipe to its iconic Easter candy Cadbury's Creme Egg. The sickly sweet, fondant-filled chocolate egg is what this time of year is all about! And it just recently came out that for people in UK, the egg is going to taste differently.
Instead of using dairy milk for the outer chocolate shell, the Americans have declared war on delicious-tasting treats and are now using cocoa mix. Again, this is only affecting people across the pond, which is probably why you see Brits causing a ruckus on Twitter with #cremeegggate.
"It's no longer Dairy Milk. It's similar, but not exactly Dairy Milk," a Kraft spokesperson said. "We tested the new one with consumers. It was found to be the best one for the Creme Egg, which is why we've used it this year. The Creme Egg has never been called the Cadbury's Dairy Milk Creme Egg. We have never played on the fact that Dairy Milk chocolate was used."
No, but you are surely playing with the emotions of your consumers! Seriously, take a look at Cadbury UK's Twitter replies. It's not pretty.
Hoping that #cremeegggate is just one of the #foxnewsfacts

Hats off to @kraftfoods for RUINING Easter. Creme eggs should be made w/ Dairy Milk chocolate only. What are they playing at? #cremeegggate

If it's true and @cadburyuk has changed the creme egg recipe, then Easter is ruined... #sayitaintso

According to people on Twitter, the new eggs taste inferior to the original. And hearts are breaking across the UK.
Oh! And get this: buyers will now only get five eggs per package instead of six. And for the exact same price. Have we no shame?!
"We now sell them in 5 packs due to changes in economic factors, such as - cost of ingredients that make our eggs so delicious!" the company tweeted in response to a complaint about the number of eggs.
America…what have you done?
