The Hunger Games, Mockingjay, Part 1

Lionsgate

Jennifer Lawrence can try to convince us all she wants that she's not gifted at pretty much everything, but...

We're catching on to the truth.

Making the talk show rounds in support of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 1, Lawrence told David Letterman recently that she dreaded having to sing "The Hanging Tree" for an essential scene in the franchise's latest installment, saying that she asked the filmmakers if they could just have Lorde sing it instead and she could lip sync.

The Oscar winner even proceeded to sing a few extra-lousy bars of "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas" to emphasize her point.

But guess what? (MINOR SPOILER AHEAD)

The Hunger Games, Mockingjay, Part 1

Lionsgate

Mockingjay Part 1 hit theaters last night, and J.Law's spare, haunting rendition of "The Hanging Tree"—which becomes the song of solidarity for the rebelling Districts of Panem—is absolutely lovely.

Who knows how much tweaking was done to the audio after the fact, but there's no doubt about it: Katniss Everdeen can carry a tune, no problem.

And the part where a mass of people join in? Chills.

Listen right here and just try to not think about it afterward.
