Spotify Announces the Official Song of the Summer, and Shockingly It's Not by Iggy Azalea

Despite having two hits this summer, the 24-year-old Australian singer got knocked out of the No. 1 spot

Even though we already declared the top songs of the summer just based off of the opinion of the E! Online staff (but what do we know?!), we still don't have an official song of summer quite yet.

Until now. Because thanks to Spotify, our favorite music streaming service (sorry, Pandora), we now have a song that we can officially, mentally, physically and emotionally call the song of the summer. Because of science.

Well, also because it was Spotify's most-streamed song globally over the last three months.

And that song is…

Jon Mathias

"Summer" by Calvin Harris! Is there a more aptly named song of the summer? Nope.

Now we would have thought that Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" was the song of summer because that track was eve-ry-where. But Calvin Harris trumped her and Ariana Grande for the global title.

So how did Calvin manage to surpass so many pop divas to come out on top? Spotify trends expert Shanon Cook thinks his gamble to not feature a big-name star was worth it:

"Calvin took a risk by singing on the track. He could easily have brought in a mega-famous starlet like Rihanna, and it paid off," she says. "His laidback voice lends a summery and sexy vibe and when combined with his punchy dance beats, you have a song that works perfectly for poolside lazing as well as hands-in-the-air beach partying."

Here are the top 10 streamed songs of the summer from across the world:

1. Calvin Harris, "Summer"
2. Ariana Grande ft. Iggy Azalea, "Problem"
3. Magic!, "Rude"
4. Iggy Azalea, "Fancy"
5. Jason Derulo ft. Snoop Dogg, "Wiggle"
6. Nico & Vinz, "Am I Wrong"
7. Coldplay, "A Sky Full of Stars"
8. Clean Bandit ft. Jess Glynne, "Rather Be"
9. Sam Smith, "Stay With Me"
10. David Guetta ft. Vassy, "Bad (Radio Edit)"

However when it comes to just the U.S. of A., Iggy did beat out Calvin Harris as the most-streamed artist, and she once again appears twice on the top ten list. Here are the top U.S. songs of the summer:

1. Iggy Azalea, "Fancy"
2. Magic!, "Rude"
3. Ariana Grande ft. Iggy Azalea, "Problem"
4. Nico & Vinz, "Am I Wrong"
5. Calvin Harris, "Summer"
6. Disclosure, "Latch"
7. Sia, "Chandelier"
8. MKTO, "Classic"
9. Jason Derulo ft. Snoop Dogg, "Wiggle"
10. Sam Smith, "Stay With Me"

What do you guys think? Safe to call Calvin Harris' jam the official song of summer? Or do you think another artist was robbed?
