Matt Lauer and Al Roker have covered all kinds of things on Today, but a freak hurricane sending sharks into the heart of the city? This was a first for the morning TV veterans!

On Tuesday, Matt and Al shot Sharknado 2 cameos in Today's Studio 1-A. The dynamic duo played themselves reporting on the hilariously farfetched shark-stirring storm Al described as "like a twister, but with teeth."

In a behind-the-scenes clip from the sequence, Matt, using an orange Today umbrella, and Al, using his bare hands, attempted to bludgeon a green object (to be presented as a shark post-edit, presumably). As you can see from their bruises, the guys were gung-ho in their attack against the unwelcome intruder.

"I can't believe we gave away the whole climax of the movie!" quipped Matt. "That is the pivotal scene in the entire move that we've just given away!"

His Today co-hosts didn't seem too upset, though. Natalie Morales asked through laughter, "Is that scene going to make the cut?" as Savannah Guthrie chided playfully, "Why didn't you go into acting, Matt?"

When asked why he looked "dirty" in the shark fight scene, Matt replied, "I was wrestling a shark for 20 minutes in the studio! You would've been dirty too."

Ah, this should be good! Sharknado 2, which features Ian Ziering and Tara Reid from the original, premieres July 30 on Syfy.
