It's the age-old question: What's thicker, blood or water? Well, maple syrup is thicker than both of those things, but that's neither here nor there.

CBS announced the cast of the 27th season of their reality staple Survivor, premiering Sept. 18. This time, returning favorites will compete with loved ones in the aptly titled Survivor: Blood vs. Water edition.

Besides the twist of putting family members and significant others into the mix, the new season will also start the competition at night, meaning each returning player and their loved one will be stranded in the dark jungle. So if you feel something crawling on your leg, don't look down. It's probably the biggest spider on record, which means the jungle will have to be burned down completely.

Immediately after the series starts, each tribe will be forced to vote someone off to be shipped to Redemption Island, but the family members or significant others will have the option of taking their place. A competition will then take place between the three castoffs to decide who will return to camp, and the winner will come back with a clue about the Immunity Idol's location.
