It sure was a surprise when Kerry Washington secretly married football player Nnamdi Asomugha on June 24, but even more surprising? The fact that that these newlyweds didn't exactly think they were a perfect pairing from the get-go.
Sources tell the New York Daily News that the Scandal star first met the San Francisco 49ers cornerback back in 2010 when he and a mutual friend went to see Washington on Broadway in Race. Only at the time, Kerry reportedly told her future hubby she didn't date athletes, and he told her he didn't date actresses.
Obviously, they got past that little roadblock eventually. According to TerezOwens.com, (who was first to break the news of the couple's nuptials last week), Kerry, 36, and Nnamdi, 31, began dating in the summer of 2012.
Part of the reason Nnamdi might've eased up his "I don't date actresses" approach to dating is the fact that he's been bitten by the bug a few times himself. He's appeared on The Game, Fright Night Lights and Leverage in recent years.
Both the athlete and his A-list wife are dedicated activists and philanthropists and have participated in the Clinton Global Initiative every year since 2009.
This is the first time down the aisle for Kerry, who was previously engaged to David Moscow. (The pair split in 2007 after several years together.)
But both Kerry and her new hubby are very private when it comes to their personal lives. In July, just weeks before the pair tied the knot in Idaho, their reps would not confirm or comment on the status of their relationship, and Kerry's rep had no comment on the Daily News story.
Hey, whatever works for them! Congratulations again to the newlyweds.
