George Clooney Is Related to the President (Lincoln, That Is!)

Oscar winner and the 16th president of the United States are distant cousins, according to Ancestry.com

As if George Clooney needed more people encouraging him to run for office.

While we knew the Oscar winner had a storied lineage, with famed singer Rosemary Clooney being his aunt and all, it turns out the great actor-activist is related to the Great Emancipator!

Clooney and Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, are half-first cousins, five times removed, according to Ancestry.com (the very folks who determined Justin Bieber and Ryan Gosling were cousins, among other famed connections).

But no wonder Clooney is such a great speaker and is all about human rights!

Per Ancestry, the Descendants star is a real, live descendant of Lucy Hanks, Lincoln's maternal grandmother (though Clooney's place in the family tree comes much further down the line, of course).

Just think: Daniel Day-Lewis presumably did a bang-up job, but Lincoln director Steven Spielberg could've gotten the real McCoy! 

Meanwhile, Clooney playing a president is probably as close as we're going to get to seeing him in the Oval Office (minus when he goes there to visit). He has said that he has no plans to run for office, instead preferring to support the causes of his choice as a concerned civilian, albeit a very famous one.
