Mr. Ecko is headed to Asgard.

Erstwhile Lost star Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has signed on to play one of the lead villains in Marvel's highly anticipated sequel, Thor: The Dark World.

So who is the mighty foe who'll be giving our hammer-wielding hero a hard time?

According to Variety, Akinnuoye-Agbaje will be playing Algrim the Strong who, as comic book lore has it, is urged to fight Thor at the behest of the evil ruler of the Dark Elves, Maliketh the Accursed.

However little does he realize the latter has betrayed him and, injured in battle, Algrim falls into a pit of lava only to be resurrected as Kurse, whose strength exceeds that of the Thunder God himself. Despite being left with amnesia, Kurse remembers enough to want to seek revenge against Thor.

The British-born thesp is best known Stateside as the mysterious Mr. Ecko who's killed by the smoke monster in ABC's hit survival series, Lost. He also appeared in such Hollywood blockbusters as The Bourne Identity, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and The Mummy Returns.

Algrim/Kurse is one of several super-baddies Thor (Chris Hemsworth) will be facing off against in the follow up. Heroes star Christopher Eccleston plays the aforementioned Malekith while Tom Hiddleston will be reprising his role as that mischevious adoptive brother Loki., who moviegoers will last recall suffered a stunning defeat at the hands of The Avengers this summer.

Helmer Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones) is taking over the reigns from Thor director Kenneth Branagh. Filming on Thor: The Dark World is now underway in London in anticipation of a Nov. 2013 release.
