CW, FOX, NBC, ABCComic-Con, you gave us so many gifts this year in the form of TV news. And honestly, we are afraid that you guys, the readers, might have missed something. It's a legitimate fear...it keeps us up at night!
Not really, but still, we want to make sure you guys got all the best TV stories from over the weekend. From Game of Thrones to The Walking Dead, here are the top 10 stories from Comic-Con 2012...
1. Game of Thrones Casting Announcement: Not one, not two, but 14 new characters were announced during the GoT panel this weekend. "We were already the biggest cast in television and we have just grown bigger—so clearly I need to start killing characters more quickly to make room for the new ones!" George R.R. Martin joked. But he's probably not joking, so we are definitely not laughing. Oh, and the season-three premiere date was announced: March 31, 2013.
2. The Walking Dead's New Season Will Blow Your Mind: Just watch the season-three trailer, and gird your brains for Sunday, Oct. 14. That's all the explanation you need.
3. The Fate of Glee's Seniors: Rachel (Lea Michele) will try and take New York City by storm, but her mean dance teacher (played by Kate Hudson) will try and knock her down a couple pegs. Finn (Cory Monteith) has joined the army, Kurt (Chris Colfer) is still in Lima (but will most likely relocate to NYC) and Santana (Naya Rivera) has accepted her cheerleading scholarship at University of Louisville. As for the rest left at McKinley High, they'll be struggling to find a full team for Sectionals, à la season one.
4. It's All About Elena the Vamp on Vampire Diaries: The shocking finale of TVD's three season set up a big season four, starring Elena the Vampire! And at Comic-Con, we got some teases from Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder about what Elena's new life will be like. "She's constantly going to be struggling with herself and how she's never wanted to become that," Dobrev said. Somerhalder added: "Elena was a badass girl, and now she's a badass vampire girl and can take care of herself. [But] Elena's going to need help from [Damon and Stefan], and I think the three of them are quite possibly going to learn a lot about each other. It's going to be an interesting process."
5. Fringe's Final Season Looks Awesome: "I know how to rid our world of the Observers!" Walter (John Noble) shouts in the very first look at Fringe's fifth and final season. We also saw some sweet Olivia (Anna Torv) and Peter moments, and found out that, according to star Joshua Jackson, those Observers are going to cause more trouble than we ever imagined.
6. Supernatural Is Chasing...Something: The producers behind the CW fan favorite kept a pretty tight lid on the new season, but they did offer this tantalizing tease: "[They're chasing] something near and dear to their hearts," new showrunner Jeremy Carver said. Writer Ben Edlund then revealed that the boys are involved in a "chase for a power source that we've already seen hints of."
7. Hook Sails Into Once Upon a Time: They waited until the very end of the panel, but Once Upon a Time revealed a quick teaser for season two, and it ended with a quick glimpse of a big Disney villain: Captain Hook! Oh, and we'll definitely find out who Henry's real father is next season.
8. Returning Favorites on True Blood: The second-half of True Blood's season was previewed during the panel, and this is what we learned. Russell Edgington (Denis O'Hare) finally gets back to his old twisted, awesome ways, and Eric's (Alexander Skarsgård) dearly departed makes Godric (Allan Hyde) makes a ghostly appearance. Plus, Alcide (Joe Manganiello) will finally accept his role as pack master.
9. Deb Is Pissed at Dexter: Did you spend the past six months or so wondering how Deb was going to handle seeing her brother Dexter about to butcher somebody in the finale? Thanks to Comic-Con, the wondering is over, as Dexter offered fans a look at the first two minutes of the season-eight premiere.
10. New Community Bosses Won't Change the Show: Showrunners Moses Port and David Guarascio braved the Community crowd to announce that they aren't here to mess with what Dan Harmon created. "A couple of months ago, we were a lot like you: just huge fans of the show who thought it was one of the most special things on television," Guarascio said. "Suddenly we're here, helping to keep it going. The only thing we care about is keeping it this weird, wonderful gem that it's always been. That's not going to change." Port added: "It's also not us coming in and taking it on by ourselves. It's the best cast on television. What I mean to say is, we won't screw it up! We promise."
