Amy Adams, James Marsden, Enchanted

Walt Disney Pictures

Tell someone you're going to be interviewing James Marsden and the first thing they'll probably say is, "Ask him about Enchanted!"

That's what happened to me the other day.

Specifically, everyone wants to know where in the world is the sequel to that fairy-tale blockbuster? Weren't he and Amy Adams signed on to reprise their roles as Prince Edward and Giselle?

"We all hoped it would happen," Marsden told me the other day while promoting today's DVD release of his most recent flick, Straw Dogs.

"I don't understand why they never did it. It was a very successful movie...But at some point when the gray hairs start coming, you can't really play the quintessential animated prince anymore. Amy and I were like, 'If we're going to do it, we should do it before we're 40.'"

They don't have have too much time left—Adams is 37 and Marsden is 38. "If it happens, great!" Marsden said. "If not, what are you going to do?"

How about make other movies?!

In Straw Dogs, Marsden takes on the role originally played by Dustin Hoffman in director Sam Peckinpah's 1971 movie of the same name. In the updated film, Marsden is a Jaguar-driving, screenwriting urbanite who moves with his wife (Kate Bosworth) back to her southern hometown where they are brutalized by a group of violent townies led by a violent rapist (Alexander Skarsgård).

Marsden's followed the thriller with Hop, a family-friendly Easter-themed flick.

"I actually filmed Hop right after I did Straw Dogs," said Marsden, who begins a multi-episode gig as Tina Fey's love interest on 30 Rock next month. "Straw Dogs was such an intense experience that I definitely wanted to lighten it up a little bit."
