It's the battle of Buffy's beaus!

Freddie Prinze Jr. is set to guest star on the upcoming ninth season of Bones, the former '90s heartthrob's first TV role since an appearance in a 2010 episode of Psych.

Of course, Buffy the Vampire Slayer's David Boreanaz is the star of the Fox drama, and Prinze is married to Buffy herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, so you can bet your trusty stake that we are positively giddy over this news. Even more so after hearing who he will be playing...

Prinze is set to take on the role of covert CIA agent Danny, an old associate of Booth's (Boreanaz) who has an interest in Booth and Brennan's murder investigation in the Sept. 16 premiere episode. (Fingers crossed for a subtle-but-oh-so-awesome Buffy reference!)

Though he is only slated to appear in one episode, there is a potential for Prinze to return later in the season, according to TV Line, who first reported the news of the She's All That star's casting.

Aside from his short-lived sitcom Freddie, Prinze's past TV gigs include arcs on 24 and Boston Legal. Gellar will also be making her return to the small screen after the cancellation of her CW series' Ringer; she is set to star opposite Robin Williams' in CBS' new sitcom The Crazy Ones. Prinze and Gellar married in 2002 and have two children together, Charlotte, 3, and Rocky, 10 months old.

Bones returns for its ninth season on Monday, Sept. 16 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
