He kicks major butt on NCIS: Los Angeles, but did LL Cool J go too far in busting up a would-be burglar?

The rapper-actor put the hurt on a 56-year-old homeless man named Jonathan Kirby after the latter broke into his Van Nuys home at 1 a.m. Wednesday morning, breaking the guy's nose, jaw and ribs while holding him down until the cops arrived.

Kirby ended up being booked on suspicion of burglary and was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for his injuries. As for LL, he was just fine.

And for those few who think the "Mama Said Knock You Out" MC might have gone a little too far in his response, Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office, tells E! News that of course he won't be charged.

"He's the victim, not the perpetrator," Robison said.

Well, that's good to hear.

Because Kirby violated California's three strikes law, if convicted of the first degree burglary charge he could face up a maximum prison sentence of 38 years to life.
