Abbie Cornish, 27, turned heads last night, sporting a stunning new look in her first public appearance since splitting from her 35-year-old Stop-Loss costar...

Cornish, who shares the cover of March's Vanity Fair issue with Kristen Stewart and Carey Mulligan, attended a party thrown by the magazine and Dior for the Stylist Project exhibition with Kimberly Brooks in L.A.

Cornish showed up around 7:30 p.m., rocking a new stick-straight, mid-neck bob, thick black eyeliner and a chic red, long-sleeved, belted Dior sheath dress. She avoided all interviews on the carpet while staying glued to her rep's side the entire night—but she certainly didn't avoid attention!

A fellow partygoer was overheard saying, "Wow, is that Abbie Cornish?" While another person walked up to Cornish's rep and said, "Abbie looks amazing!"

The newly single Aussie actress was surrounded by friends all night. She was constantly smiling, laughing, sipping from a wine glass, posing for pics for a guest's digital camera and showing off jewelry to her pals. She stayed until the party ended shortly after 9 p.m.

Cornish wasn't the only celeb spotted at the high fashion fete: Ginnifer Goodwin, Jordana Brewster, Marisa Tomei, Christina Hendricks, Nia Vardalos and James Van Der Beek also made appearances.
