It was the Instagram everyone was ooh-ing and aww-ing over.

Cody Simpson and girlfriend Gigi Hadid appeared to have taken it all off for a sexy photo shoot by famed photographer Mario Testino.

But in a new interview, the 18-year-old singer is coming clean about how the revealing photo really came about.

"I couldn't really say no to Mario Testino," Simpson told HuffPost Live Tuesday. "It was a weird scenario because we were shooting in Vogue with Mario and at the end of the day he was like, 'Take off your clothes.'"

He continued, "I'm no male model. That's not what I do at all. I'm a musician."

Luckily, Hadid is such an expert on all things modeling which ultimately helped her man get comfortable with the shoot.

"She's a pro with that and [Mario] just kept pushing the towel smaller. It started off as more like to my thigh and he pushed it down," he confessed. "We were wearing clothes underneath the towel, but it looks pretty funny." Yeah, and pretty hot.

The shoot grabbed the attention of close friend Miley Cyrus who decided to add her face to Simpson's body in a hilarious Instagram meme. It was a joke that the Australian singer found absolutely "hilarious."

"She's so cool. It was creepy and I loved it," he explained. "I follow her on Instagram, it's fun."

Sexy photo shoots aside, Simpson is loving every moment with Hadid as they continue their romance. While both are experiencing jam-packed schedules in their respective careers, the twosome is making more than enough time to hang out and stay in touch.

"We definitely make it work. We see each other more than you would expect because we're dedicated to making it work and it's not too stressful," he shared. "We try to stay in a bit. We try to stay out of [the spotlight]."

He added, "It's hard because she's a model. She's getting photos taken all the time. We just try and stay low."
