Mother Publicly Shames 11-Year-Old Daughter for Twerking at a School Dance, Forces Her to Apologize

Miley Cyrus may have made twerking popular, but Frances Hena isn't going to support her like Billy Ray did

Frances Hena is no Billy Ray Cyrus. Or Tish Cyrus (who's a cool mom ;-P).

The Bakersfield, Calif., mom punished her 11-year-old daughter, Jamie, by forcing her to stand at a busy street intersection for two hours holding an apology sign. Jamie's crime? The seventh grader twerked at a school dance.

The sign read: "I Was Disrespecting My Parents by Twerking at a School Dance."

"Every parenting is different. I mean, what am I supposed to do?" Frances told ABC News about her public shaming (H/T Gawker). "I think this is embarrassing...I'm embarrassed myself for having her twerk at a school dance."

Twerking is defined by ABC as "a dance that involves moving your bottom in a very sexual and inappropriate way" (thanks, ABC! If you still don't understand, check out our Beginner's Guide).

"That's ridiculous to think that's OK at a school dance. The school didn't even call me and let me know it was going on," Frances rants. Instead, a friend told her (assumedly, one of Frances' friends and not her daughter's, although if it is the latter, that narc of a friend should know that snitches get stitches).

Frances believes Jamie learned how to twerk online (and thus has now taken away her Internet privileges so she can't even read this story about herself) and says, "I want her to realize that she is just a child and she can't do that...When she's 18, she can do whatever she wants. As of right now, that's not something she's going to be doing."

As for Jamie, ABC asked the tween if she was upset and she responded, "Yes."
