Unlike a billion-plus TV watchers, we at the Soup Blog fail to see the fascination in spending hours (3,600 of them, to be exact. Thanks, NBC!) watching people run, jump, swim, etc. But watching people completely blow the big chance for a gold medal (which looks like something from the Franklin Mint), now that's entertainment! Just think of all the years spent training to throw a metal stick or to flip yourself in the air like a circus clown only to have your hopes dashed by inches or milliseconds—and in front of a billion people! Defeat may be agonizing, but it's also a lot of laughs.
