Is James Cameron teaming up with Angelina Jolie for a 3-D version of Cleopatra?

Remember, when Angie was doing her Salt rounds back in summer she expressed serious interest in playing Cleo—if she finds the right team.

"I would be honored," Jolie told us. "I'm fascinated by her and the mystery...but we haven't gotten a script yet, so we'll see if something's good enough and we'll try and make it."

Enter the Avatar director...

Deadline is reporting that Jolie + Cameron = "tantalizingly possible."

Apparently James and Sony Pictures (Angie's go-to studio) are discussing the idea of Cameron directing the adaptation of Stacy Schiff's book Cleopatra: A Life.

"Physically, she's the perfect look," Schiff, has commented on Jolie.

We've definitely come around to the idea of Angelina in this role (sorry Snooki), and could be convinced into Cameron signing on too.

Our initial thought was WTF, but the more we mull it over, this could be insanely cool.

But if this is going to be in 3D, there's absolutely no other director who could pull it off and not make it too cheesy. So if James doesn't sign on, for the love of movies we hope this idea goes away.

The main reason we're dying for this to happen? To see how J.C. and Angelina would mesh together (doesn't he always marry someone in one of his movies?).

We're thinking it's a match made in Hollywood heaven—but Cameron is notorious for being a brilliant asshole when he's in work mode, and Jolie is clearly not one to take anybody's crap.

So what do you all think about this possible Cleo collaboration? Weigh in below.
