Call Him Big Old Bird—Sesame Street Turns 40!
This may take Count von Count a while, but it's A-OK—Sesame Street marks its 40th anniversary today.
The PBS stalwart debuted on Nov. 10, 1969, and, after more than 21 million minutes aired, 122 Emmys and a Lifetime Achievement award, has managed to stay relevant—and sometimes controversial (remember that Bert-Bin Laden hookup?).
Cookie Monster, Elmo, Oscar the Grouch and friends will be celebrating in style with Michelle Obama and the letter H.
The first lady's appearance presumably won't be ticking off right-wingers—unless they're offended by vegetable gardens and Big Bird's measuring stick.
"Are you part bird?" the fine-feathered one asks her. "You and I are both really tall."
Cameron Diaz also stops by to help Grover explain the importance of trees.
Sunny Days Not! Conservatives Get Grouchy About Sesame Street
Who knew Sesame Street would one day join the ranks of Real Time With Bill Maher, South Park and The Daily Show?
You'd expect jabs at Fox News from the politically minded comedic shows, but not the kid's program celebrating its 40th anniversary tomorrow.
The show recently reaired an episode from two years ago in which Oscar the Grouch launches his own television channel called "GNN," for Grouchy News Network. Grundgetta, a female Muppet viewer, calls into Oscar's show and threatens to turn the dial. "From now on, I'm watching Pox News. Now there's a trashy news show," she exclaims.
Now, conservative bloggers are getting their panties in a bunch over this.
Michelle Obama: People Will Always Have Opinions
It may only be October, but Michelle Obama already seems to be in the holiday spirit, at least when it comes to posing for the festive-feeling December cover of Glamour.
Of course, her status as a fashionista has sometimes been open for debate, and that's something Mrs. Obama has come to expect.
"People are always going to have opinions, and people have a right to their opinions, particularly when you're the First Lady; you're representing the nation," she tells the mag. "So I can't be surprised that people are interested. But I've tried to be at peace with the choices that I make first, and then be open to everyone else's reflection."
One of her choices had nothing to do with clothes or accessories, but did lead to living in the White House. So what exactly did she seek out when it came to snagging the man who would be prez?
Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony Hang With Obamas
Thanks to Barack Obama, Marc Anthony's 41st birthday was one for the record books.
After touring the Oval Office, J.Lo and Marc got glammed up for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute's black-tie gala, where Marc was receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award.
While the president was presenting his award, he said Jenny's hubby is quite popular with Latina Congress members.
"I'm telling you, J.Lo, watch out," Obama joked from the podium.
The Obamas weren't their only political powerhouse companions...

Eva Longoria Parker: Jesse Metcalfe's Naked Truth
Jesse Metcalfe may have made a name for himself by showing off his impressive pecs playing gardener John Rowland on Desperate Housewives, but that doesn't mean he'll be stripping down when he reprises his role in the upcoming season of the hit ABC series.
"I don't think we'll be seeing him shirtless," Eva Longoria Parker informed me yesterday. "You'll be seeing a very different John Rowland."
Perhaps Longoria Parker can get Mr. Metcalfe to take off his shirt for charity...
Can Obamas or Cruises See Any Movie, Any Time?
Since when can Bill Clinton just call up a studio and order a copy of a movie that's still in theaters? Somebody needs to tell him he isn't president anymore.
—Pala
Correct. He is not. Bill Clinton does, however, still wield legendary Gonads of Diplomacy, which freed two imprisoned journalists from North Korea—and which, apparently, enjoy chick flicks like The Ugly Truth. Ditto with first lady Michelle Obama, who arranged a private screening of Julie & Julia at the White House—one month before it opened.
Now, this is not a case of somebody sending over a DVD movie screener. We're in much too high a stratosphere for that. If you're powerful enough, you enjoy only big-screen movies, messengered to your home, direct from the source, in a kind of elite library system for the rich and famous...

Malia & Sasha: Cheeseburgers and Milkshakes!
Michelle Obama must be taking notes from Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who brought their brood to McDonalds earlier this week. The first mom treated her kids to the Good Stuff Eatery.
I just got word that Malia and Sasha joined their mom and about 15 of her staffers for a lunch at former Top Chef contestant Spike Mendelsohn's year-old restaurant on Capitol Hill.
What was on the menu? Read on to find out.
Michelle Obama Shows Off Latest Mane Makeover
It may have been an evening to celebrate country music, but leave it to Michelle Obama to rock…the locks.
The first lady sported a sassier and sexier new cut Tuesday, as she and her dad jeans-loving hubby, President Barack Obama, welcomed the likes of Alison Krauss, Brad Paisley and Charlie Pride to the White House. The country stars came to D.C. on behalf of a music education awareness program initiated by the commander in chief's wife...
First Daughters J.Crews Into Moscow
President Barack Obama went to Moscow for some talks about nuclear arms.
We know that's like totally important, but what would a trip by the first family be without a little fashion talk? So here we go…
Happy Birthday, Sasha Obama!
Sasha Obama turns 8 years old today. She got an early start on the celebration yesterday when she went to see The Lion King in London with her sister Malia and mom Michelle.
After touring Westminster Abbey together, the girls headed to their private box at the Lyceum Theatre in London's West End.
Although they didn't make a scene, fellow audience members quickly spotted their famous faces...

The Obamas' Date Night in NYC
When you're the first lady, date night isn't just dinner and a movie.
On Saturday night, President Barack Obama took Michelle out for a night in the Big Apple.
They arrived at JFK on a small jet before taking a helicopter into NYC for dinner at hot spot Blue Hill.
Fellow diners had little warning that the prez and his wife would be eating in their midst.
One couple's purse and jacket were quickly checked by Secret Service agents, and then in walked the president.
Their night didn't end after dinner...
Barack Obama Wanted for 30 Rock!
Alec Baldwin may want Michelle Obama to guest star on 30 Rock, but costar Jane Krakowski is aiming just a wee bit higher.
"I keep saying we've just got to get [Barack] Obama," Krakowski, who plays Jenna on the hit show, tells me. "We've had Steve Martin. We've had Oprah. We've had Jerry Seinfeld. We've had all these great musical greats. Let's just go for the big guns now."
Krakowski is thinking Jay Leno could help them land the president. "I always say, 'He was on The Tonight Show, so he's part of the NBC family,' " she laughs. "He might want to just come by."
And talk about coming by. Tonight's 30 Rock finale has quite an impressive lineup...
