Vegas Jury Gets O.J. Simpson Case

O.J. Simpson's livelihood is now in the hands of 12 strangers.
The erstwhile Naked Gun star and codefendant Clarence Stewart are staring at matching life sentences if convicted on a dozen crimes, including armed robbery and kidnapping, for a raid on two sports memorabilia dealers at a Las Vegas hotel.
Three weeks of testimony wrapped Thursday with closing arguments boiling down to this:
Clark County District Attorney David Roger: "In the state of Nevada, we are a civilized society. If property is taken from us, we don't go into rooms with guns and demand our property. That is robbery.
"When they went into that room and forced the victims to the far side of the room, pulling out guns and yelling, 'Don't let anybody out of here,' that is kidnapping."
Simpson legal eagle Yale Galanter: "I will be the first to tell you, doing this on your own, going into a hotel room to get back your stolen stuff, is not bright. It's just not bright. But being stupid and being frustrated is not being a crook."
OK, so it's not as catchy as "if it doesn't fit, you must acquit," but there might be a good omen for the 61-year-old Simpson: Friday marks the 13th anniversary of his acquittal on charges of murdering ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman.
