Blame Canada: The Quaids are out and about.

Evi Quaid, who was arrested in Vancouver along with actor hubby Randy Quaid last week after border security realized they were wanted in California for missing a court date, has been granted unconditional release after...wait for it...she informed the country's immigration board that she is a Canadian citizen. (She was born in Vermont, according to IMDb, but...OK.)

The Quaids revealed Friday that they were seeking refuge north of the border because they feared for their lives in the U.S.

Randy, who was famously born in Texas along with brother Dennis Quaid, still must report for an admission hearing with the Immigration and Refugee Board tomorrow to determine whether he'll be allowed to lawfully stay in the country.

The Goya's Ghost star was also released from custody today after posting $10,000 bail. At the same time, he and his conspiracy-theorist missus posted a $1 million bond to keep them out of custody in Santa Barbara, pending their appearance at a Nov. 2 hearing in Superior Court.

"I just want a place that I can work and enjoy my life and not feel that someone is always following me around and trying to steal from me," Randy told CTV News upon his release.

"Everyone has the same sense of humor as me," added Evi. "[Canada is] big and beautiful, just like my husband."

The Quaids are facing a felony vandalism charge in Santa Barbara, Calif., for allegedly squatting in—and doing a fair amount of damage to—a Montecito home they used to own.

After the Mounties caught up with them last week, the Quaids let loose with their greatest excuse yet: "We are requesting asylum from Hollywood star whackers," they said in a statement after claiming that Heath Ledger and David Carradine were murdered and Randy could be next.

Melissa Anderson, senior communications director for the Immigration and Refugee Board, tells E! News that Evi told authorities on Friday that her father was a "Canadian FBI agent."

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is a U.S. entity, of course, but the Canada Border Services Agency has determined that Evi is a Canadian citizen by virtue of her father being born there.
