Thom Yorke finally has an answer to all the questions.
Radiohead fans eager to see more of the frontman's side project, which debuted to much acclaim under the moniker ?????? last fall in Los Angeles, will get a chance to hear more when Yorke and crew head out on a brief tour this spring.
And this time, they even have a proper name...
Yorke announced on Radiohead's website that his new band, comprised of Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, Mauro Refosco (of Forro in the Dark), Joey Waronker (who's played with R.E.M. and Beck) and longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, will officially be called—drumroll, please—Atoms for Peace.
The quintet will take to the road in April, kicking off with a pair of shows at New York's Roseland Ballroom. The tour hits Boston, Chicago and a few California cities before culminating with a slot at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival.
"We had too much fun to just leave it there," said Yorke of the then-unnamed group's first live outing. "It has been decided that we call ourselves Atoms for Peace. hope you like the name...it seemed bleedin' obvious."
"Atoms for Peace" is also a song on Yorke's 2006 solo album, The Eraser, but the phrase comes from a speech by President Dwight Eisenhower on how atomic energy could be harnessed for peaceful purposes.
