There's the family we were born with and the family we find along the way. Bruce Springsteen has both.

And tonight, his show with the E Street Band in Kansas City, Mo., was "unavoidably cancelled" following the death of Springsteen's cousin and longtime assistant road manager, Lenny Sullivan, according to a statement on the rocker's website.

Police found the 36-year-old man dead in his room at the InterContinental Hotel on the Plaza. They don't suspect foul play, but are conducting a routine inquiry.

"A warm and sensitive person, he was beloved by Bruce, the Band, the crew, and the entire Thrill Hill family," read the website, which had first referred to Sullivan, who worked for them for 10 years, as a member of Springsteen's "immediate family."

Tickets for Monday's show at Sprint Center will be refunded. "Bruce and The Band deeply appreciate the understanding of our Kansas City audience and look forward to returning at the earliest opportunity," the website read.

After tonight, the guys aren't scheduled to perform until Thursday during the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Concert at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Sad news. Reminds us of the pop stars who exited stage right far too soon.
