Bristol Palin's Ex Talks Sex Under Sarah's Roof

Levi Johnston says he's allowed to visit his baby daughter, "malfunctions" in the safe sex process led to pregnancy

Even if Levi Johnston were not one to kiss and tell, Sarah Palin was apparently already in the loop.

The 19-year-old father of Palin's first grandchild tells Tyra Banks that the GOP vice presidential candidate was probably aware that he and her daughter, Bristol, were having premarital sex.

"How do you know she probably knew?" Banks asked Johnston.

"Moms are pretty smart," the teen replied. He and Bristol, 18, confirmed their breakup in March, a little more than two months after the Dec. 27 birth of their son, Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston.

When asked if the two of them practiced safe sex—all the time—Johnston said that they did and agreed with Banks' assessment that some sort of "malfunction" led to the unplanned pregnancy.

Until Banks pressed him into admitting "most of the time" rather than every time.

As far as his role in his son's life, Johnston said that Bristol lets him visit Tripp but won't let him take the baby anywhere.

"Some days we can have regular conversations without fighting," Johnston said. "Most of the times I don't know what's going on with her—she's in a pretty bad mood, she's short, she doesn't want me around, I don't think."

Well, she might not now, anyway—even though Levi did tell Tyra he'd still vote for Palin over Barack Obama in 2012.

A spokeswoman for the Palin family said Friday that they had no idea Johnston and his mom and sister were going to be guests on the Tyra Banks Show.

"We're disappointed that Levi and his family, in a quest for fame, attention and fortune, are engaging in flat-out lies, gross exaggeration, and even distortion of their relationship," rep Meghan Stapleton said.

Furthermore, Johnston can see Tripp "whenever he wants," while "the family sees the baby whenever they want."

"Bristol's focus will remain on raising Tripp, completing her education, and advocating abstinence," the statement continued. "It is unfortunate that Levi finds it more appealing to exploit his previous relationship with Bristol than to contribute to the well being of the child."
