Beauty Police: Katy Perry Channels a Japanese Anime Character at Australian Tour Launch

You'd think Katy Perry would have learned her lesson after the American Music Awards controversy, when she was accused of racism for her "Geisha Style" performance. Sure, the blunt Cleopatra bob and black hair bow at the top of her head might be a bit subtler than a full-on geisha costume, but when we saw this photo of the songstress kicking off her Australian Prismatic Tour, we thought, "Uh-oh."

This isn't even a stage look! She actually went to a red carpet event with hair that looked like a cast member from Sailor Moon. Cartoon hair aside, we did love her makeup. Her liquid black kitten eyes and red brick lip were ultra-flattering against the "Dark Horse" singer's creamy complexion.

Beauty Bailout: Katy seems to have really been battling to get her new hairstyle to work. Those blunt bangs are tough to pull off without looking too much like a Halloween costume wig.

We think it's time she grew out that wall of bangs and gave them a more undone, wispy look. In the meantime, she should side part her hair and brush those bangs to one side. Or better yet, wear a thin black headband (no bows!!) Those bangs just aren't working.

Get the Look: Since we did love Katy's makeup, we figured you would want to know how to get her look. Let's start with the skin: after cleansing and moisturizing, apply an oil-free primer like Lancôme La Base Pro that will help fill in enlarged pores and fine lines.

Then, since we know that Katy battles oiliness (yes, we've all watched her late-night Proactiv infomercials), we suggest that if your skin is like hers, you should apply an oil-free mattifying powder foundation like MAKE UP FOR EVER Duo Mat Powder Foundation.

Since Katy has been jetting around the world these past few weeks, her eyes sans makeup are probably showing a bit of fatigue. We recommend using a brightening concealer that also camouflages dark circles and uneven skin tone like Physicians Formula Super CCC Correct + Conceal + Cover Concealer.

Apply several dots of concealer under your eyes from inner corner to outer corner. Then, with your ring finger gently tap the concealer into your skin (never rub!!) Blend the product out with the same delicate taps.

To get Katy's liquid-lined eyes, start by prepping upper eye area with primer or concealer. Then, apply a cream or flesh-colored powder eye shadow on the entire upper eye area. Next, apply a matte brown eye shadow above the crease to make eyes appear larger.

Now for the liner, use a black liquid eyeliner pen like L'Oreal Infallible The Super Slim Liquid Eyeliner - Black to make a thin line hugging the upper lash line. Then start thickening the line, making it wider as you get towards the outer corners. At the outer corners, give the pen a slight flick upwards to make the kitten wing.

To copy Katy's lip, first exfoliate with a sugar scrub or toothbrush and then line lips with a neutral lip pencil.Next, use a lip brush to apply a matte red brick lipstick like NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Terre de Feu.

We're not sure if Katy is struggling with the fact that she's turning 30 this year, or if it's due to her recent breakup from John Mayer, but she seems to be regressing when it comes to her hair decisions. We know there isn't much she can do about the cut at this point, but we're pleading with Katy to give away her cartoon hair bows. If she doesn't shake the anime soon, she's going to hear the Beauty Police "Roar!"
