When it comes to fab hairstyles at Coachella, you can't go wrong with a hot braided 'do. So, it was no surprise when festival goers and celebs flocked to the Olay & Herbal Essences Braid Bar at the Music Lounge to get their manes braided up in the latest styles. Check out the step-by-step instructions from the Lounge on how to get a waterfall braid, fishtail braid and crown braid!
Start by spraying the Herbal Essences Naked Dry Shampoo and rubbing it at the root to give hair a boost of volume and texture before styling. Then, sweep hair to the opposite side from your part and tie it in a low ponytail with a clear elastic band.
To make the braid, split hair into two equal sections. Take a small piece from the outside of the right section and pull it across to the left section. Then take a small piece from the left side and pull it across to the right. Continue until you have about one inch of hair left, then tie it with a clear elastic band.
Pull the two sides of the braid apart, starting in the middle. Work your way down and then back up until it loosens. Some pieces may fall out, but that just adds to the soft, textured look.
Pick up a two- to three-inch section beside your part. Divide into three equal pieces. Cross strands over each other once from left to right, picking up hair like you would in a traditional French braid.
Repeat the previous step, but after you cross the right strand over, drop it and allow it to hang loose (or have a friend hold it taut while you work). Pick up a new section close to where the original left strand was to create your new right strand.
Continue the process, adding hair from the left and right, and dropping the right strand after every rotation. (Note: Keep sections consistent in size each time.) Keep working around the crown of your head. Stop midway through or continue all the way around.
Twist the remaining hair into a regular braid. Tie the end with an elastic band and tuck it under your hair; secure with bobby pins.
Finish up the look with Herbal Essences Naked Sheer Shine Mist to give your style a lightweight shine.
Work Herbal Essences Naked Volumizing Soufflé into wet hair to give locks hold and maintain the natural movement. After letting hair air dry, section off hair on one side, starting at the hairline and ending at the tip of the ear; then separate into three parts.
Begin a three-strand braid, adding a section from the crown to the bottom strand of the braid. (This keeps the braid low along the nape of the neck.)
Continue braiding around the head until you reach the other ear and there is no more hair to add. Finish braiding in a traditional three-strand braid, and tie off the ends with a clear rubber band. If the French braid feels loose, add bobby pins until it's secure.
To create a half headband, wrap the braid up around your crown, folding the end under. Tuck in stray pieces and pin into place. Finish with the Herbal Essences Naked Flexible Hold Spritzer to keep your style in place without feeling stiff or sticky.
Herbal Essences Naked Dry Shampoo, Herbal Essences Naked Volumizing Soufflé and Herbal Essences Naked Sheer Shine Mist are just a few of the products from the collection that can turn a humdrum hairstyle into a fabulous braid-up.
