Bad Gal Ri-Ri will Instagram just about anything, but don't ask her about Chris Brown—or you'll be in deep trouble with the "We Found Love" singer.

Case in point? Rihanna got seriously heated in her U.K. Esquire interview for the July issue when the reporter pressed the badass babe on those controversial remixes with ex-BF Chris Brown.

Ready for a seriously awkward encounter? Ri-Ri's got bite.

"Some people felt it sent the wrong message," the Esquire journalist states in regards to Ri-Ri's remixes with Chris Brown.

"What was that? What message would that be?" Rihanna angrily fires back.

"You'd gone back to someone who put you in the hospital," the reporter says.

"Did I? Did I? Did I?" RiRi shot back. "OK. In a completely professional environment. And on a complete professional note. I mean, if I went back to him [as a girlfriend], then that's a whole different discussion. And if I ever do, then that's something that y'all have to talk to me about when—if—that ever happens. Until then, look at it for what it is. I think a lot of people jumped to an assumption that was incorrect and they ended up looking stupid."

Whoa. Talk about a seriously heated exchange, and we're hardly surprised Rihanna fought back—the gal is famous for her don't-give-an-eff attitude and we're glad the confident gal isn't afraid to defend her decisions.

Still, the reporter has a point after Rihanna 'fesses that she didn't expect the Chris Brown remix backlash—a bit hard to believe considering the troubled twosome's history:

"Maybe the thing is that as an artist your personal and private life are intertwined, and you've already played on this. The first song you put out after the beating incident was 'Love the Way You Lie,' about domestic violence," the reporter explains.

Can't argue with that rationale. And despite Rihanna's attempts to defend herself, the gal just ends up losing her cool:

"I'm gonna look back on my life and say that I enjoyed it—and I lived it for me—and God. This is turning into a tacky interview. What do you really want to talk about? I'm not here to [talk] about messy s--t."

Awkward. But even though the Esquire reporter continues to press Ri-Ri on a topic she's clearly uncomfortable discussing (much more than the softball Sunrise interview Ri also "abruptly ended") we feel like the conversation is fairly reasonable. After all, Rihanna made two remixes with the dude and continues to pull the badass card every chance she gets.

So is it really unfair that Rihanna is constantly questioned about her ex? Or should the controversial babe quit the pouting when her actions provoke the questions?

Hey, perhaps the Esquire reporter and the Sunrise host can tag team for a follow-up? As long as they keep it very vanilla.
