Well, whether we can or not, we're not getting it. Just hours before last night's taping of The Colbert Report, production was abruptly canceled not just for that episode, but for the remainder of the week.
So how did Stephen Colbert, et al., explain the sudden shutdown?

Nancy Pelosi sure does! The 71-year-old House minority leader released a faux-political ad on YouTube slamming Stephen Colbert's $1 million Super PAC.

Don't underestimate Stephen Colbert!
The Comedy Central host's political action committee has raised $1.02 million, according to Federal Election Committee filings Tuesday. (Thanks to Supreme Court rulings last year, corporations, unions and other groups and wealthy individuals can set up super PACs that have the ability to raise unlimited campaign contributions to sway voters ahead of the 2012 elections.)
"I'm rolling seven digits deep!" he said in a letter to the FEC. "I got 99 problems but a non-connected independent-expenditure only committee ain't one!"
So just how did Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow raise that kind of cash?

Stephen Colbert and Herman Cain Rally in South Carolina
Herman Cain has already dropped out of the presidential race…but that won't stop Stephen Colbert from rallying for him.
The Comedy Central funnyman hit the campus of the College of Charleston Friday, joined by over 3,000 students, a marching band and cheerleaders, to urge South Carolinians to cast a vote for Cain (who just so happens to still be on the ballot) in support of his own faux candidacy for "president of the United States of South Carolina."

Last night on the Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert announced, in essence, plans to give the money and run—that is, give over the ridiculously considerable money and power of his Super PAC to Jon Stewart, and run…for president of the United States.
Technically no official candidacy has been announced (yet), but Colbert certainly hinted that things were heading that way by taking the first step toward a run: announcing the formation of an exploratory committee in his name.
Really, it was always leading up to this anyway, wasn't it?

There's no joking around when it comes to Stephen Colbert.
OK, clearly that's not true, but The Colbert Report host seems to be pretty serious about helping close the funding gap for South Carolina's first-in-the-South GOP presidential primary by putting in $500,000! Now that's serious.
However, there's a catch: The comedian wants the ballot renamed to "The Colbert Super PAC South Carolina Republican Primary."

Stephen Colbert just can't catch a break. In the political arena, that is.
The Colbert Report funnyman, whose attempt to run for president in 2007 proved unsuccessful when his bid to get on the South Carolina democratic primary ballot was denied, has once again been rejected.
But he wasn't trying to seek the highest office in the land this time around.

Stephen Colbert is actually taking advantage of that Super PAC money—and he's using it for laughs, of course.
The Colbert Report funnyman has rolled out a new political ad in Iowa that is taking aim at Texas Governor Rick Perry, with a fake group called Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow, backing another Rick, "Rick Parry."
